Who's "vision" do preacher's kids live...parents or theirs?

This blog has been created to help preacher's kids.  Everyone is concerned with the youth and young adults all over this country today, and that is great!  But as a pastor, I have always been concerned about WHO is concerned about the "Preacher's Kid?"  I have been a preacher's kid since I was 2 years old but nobody, nobody was ever was concern about how I was going to be able to deal with growing up in "church" with "church people." knowing they probably didn't like my dad; and How was I going to deal with the fact that I may not get to go to the school dance, high school prom, or even date girl sitting next to me in school.

Wow! Growing up, in the church we never dealt with these issues that I would face as a young person, just to name a few and certainly not as a preacher's kid...a p.k.! ...A pastor's kid at that.  I had things on my mind, things I wanted to talk about too; but the church people consumed "my time" that I was supposed to be getting with the pastor, my dad...my mom.  I didn't know how to talk about what I felt, I was going to get preached to - I didn't need them to preach me a sermon.  I needed them to talk to me as a son, their kid.

As a pastor today, having 2 children of my own, I make it my business to learn from mistakes that I have observed in the church and I have learned NOT to make the same mistakes with my kids.  So many pastors, elders, deacon, and minister's kids are living just as I was.  There is nobody to talk to about being a "P.K." growing up in the church.  Who would even understand, but another preacher's kid?  I'm sure that you have heard that preacher's kids are the worst kids.  The question is how can that be when we are all kids?  I'm no different than the neighbor's kid, my classmate, or even the choir director's kid.  My appeal to pastors, deacons, and ministers is to not lose your kid saving another kid in the church.... don't lose sight of your kid in the pew while preaching to the congregation... don't save another kid and your kid be lost!  Family is before the church.  God has order and He loves family, not only family, He loves the preacher's kid too...
